Slowing things down AGAIN

I know, I promised I would upload at least one video per day, but now I am changing the coding, fixing typos and working on the whole layout again. As you can see, the top menu is different now and I moved the social links down to the middle of the page. I hope I will be able to get back to the video section soon. I still have more than 300 martial arts videos I want to upload before november.

Non Flash Version of Flash Mavi

Good News!!!

I am working an a non-flash version of Flash Mavi -> with Javascript and html5. The site will switch automatically if you don’t have a flash player installed. This will also work on your cell phones. BTW, there is already a mobile version of FM, but the current version doesn’t work on all mobile devices. Estimated turn-around time: 3 weeks.

Sponsorship Program on Indefinite Hold

The sponsorship program has been running for more than half a year, but yesterday I had to put it on an indefinite hold. The reason for this is that I got several complaints from other webmasters. Some participants simply took the link along with the caption “Click Here” and spammed it onto forums, blogs etc which had nothing to do with the topics from flash mavi. Of course that work for the referral count, but the goal of the program was not negative reputation and complaints from other webmasters. I will probably not put the program back online, but the good news is that I will run a different sponsorship program over the facebook fan page next month. For updates on this, feel free to check back any time. The winners from May 2010 will still receive their prize (around the middle of the month). Of course I am sorry for those who didn’t abuse the system.

Yesterday I added a new icon to the top menu. The pink “Thumbs Up” button is for everybody who likes a lesson and wants to share it. By clicking on this new button, you automatically copy the link of the site you are looking at. To show show your friends (and btw, support FM) just paste (ctrl + v) it on your website or send it to whoever you think might be interested.

Fixed Broken Links

New Sanda Outfit & Sanda Video Section

Changed the Sanda Outfit and re-opened the new sanda video section. For now there will be 31 instructional sanda videos. After the sanda I publish some videos for soft wushu weapons such as whipchain, double whipchain and rope dart.

Adsense Ads Not Showing Up

In the last couple of days quite a few adsense ads disappeared from flashmavi.com. Most of you probably don’t care, but this site is NOT hosted on a 5usd/month shared hosting server. In order to keep everything up and running in a good quality FM need to make some income. It took me a few days to figure out what the problem was and the answer was: the robots.txt file. I had a very simple robots file which was supposed to prevent indexing of 3 folders. These 3 folders had nothing to do with adsense my adsense pages or the adsense bot. I just had it on this domain. But still… They blocked the adsense crawler and ad-blocks were replaced with public services ads systematically. On one hand FM last some money, but on the other hand I learned something about the adsense crawler. It took the crawler one week to go through 100 pages. I know that because after one week 100 ad-blocks turned in to PVA’s. So I suppose with my current traffic the adsense crawler looks for changes ever 7 to 14 days and that explains why you should wait at least one week after you make changes to ad placement, colors etc.

Another Stupid Mistake

Unfortunately I overwrote all the videos with a 1-frame/second version. So all the videos play like a 1-image-per-second slideshow now. I already started uploading the original files, but it will take up to 48 hours until all the videos are up.
