Capoeira
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art, game and dance, developed
by africans
enslaved in Brazil during the 17th Century.
Practicioners
stand in a circle ( roda ) and take turns playing music and sparring.

Style description: Capoeira
- Sparring includes groundwork to the music, kicks,
different strikes, sweeps, throws, escaping techniques and
difficult
acrobatics ( flips
etc ) .
- The players have to fight to the rhytmus "Toque"
without stopping.
The instruments used to play the music are called: Berimbau, Atabaque
and Pandeiro.
- There are 3 different capoeira styles:
Capoeira Angola ( Mestre Pastinha - more traditional )
Capoeira Regional ( Mestre Bimba ) and
Capoeira Contemporãnea ( competetive - similar to wushu "Dui
Da" Competitions - not like contact sports )
Trainer advice: Capoeira
- Gymnastics or wushu background can be very helpful
for capoeira.
