Front Flip Full Twist - Gymnastics
Welcome to lesson number 666. ( a mavi beast instruction
)
This is the new tutorial for the front flip full twist and at the same
time the 666 special.
Learn how to do a front flip full twist from the mavi beast. Full
Twist = 360° Rotation
Before you try the full twist, you should learn the front flip layout and
the front flip half twist.
You should be able to land your front flip layout in a vertical
position on the balls of your feet, and
your half twist should feel easy too.

Technical description: Front Flip Full Twist - Gymnastics
- Run forward and jump off from the balls of your feet just like if you were doing a normal front flip layout.
Find detailed info on how to jump off, in the front flip layout tutorial.
Summary: Bring your legs together and bounce off from the balls of the feet.
There are different arm strikes.
The one find technically the best is following:
Extend the arms vertical ( over the head ) shortly before you bounce off,
bend the elbows a bit as your feet touch the floor and extend them again when you bounce off.
Don't forget that you must not look to your feet or bend your head down as you jump off.
Keep your upper body pretty vertical.
- Extend knees, ankles and elbows, so that your entire body is in a straight line.
Keep looking straight forward ( not down ) until you initiate the twist.
- Kick your heels up and open your arms a little bit like if you were initiating a normal front flip layout.
This is for the flip itsself and to unterstand this better, I suggest
you visit the tutorials for the front
flip half twist and the front
flip layout.
Keep looking straight forward.
- Close your arms in front of your chest and turn
your head to the left,
so that you look over your left shoulder.
Turn your head, but don't look down.
Make sure your spine and your legs are in a straight line when you initiate the rotation.
You can also initiate the rotation turning the entire upper body at once. ( for multiple twists )
Actually this would be even better, but when you try your first twisted flips, it is much easier to coordinate the rotation with
a head turn at the beginning.
Beginners who don't turn the head, often twist back after the first 180 degrees.
- Keep turning and look over your left shoulder.
Maintain your knees extended and your feet together.
The hands should be pretty close together and in front of the chest. ( not on the hip )
- To stop the roation, lift your arms and look straight forward.
Extend your elbows and if you want to stop the twist faster,
seperate your hands a bit further.
- Land as soft as possible and look straight forward.
Keep your abs tight to protect your spine.
Land on the balls of your feet.
When you first learn the front flip full twist, jump from a mini
tramp onto thick landing mats.
Later you can try it on a spring board and finally on the gymnastics floor.
- Extra: Try to land in a stuck landing.
Stuck Landing:
Landing on both feet at the same time.
No extra steps to balance out the landing.
Hands up.
Trainer advice: Front Flip Full Twist - Gymnastics
- Learn the front
flip layout and the front
flip half twistbefore you try your first fornt flip full
twist.
- When you first learn this skill, jump from a trampoline onto thick landing mats.
- Some gyms have special belts for the practice of flips with rotations.
- The head turn is very important at the beginning, but if you wanna learn flips with multiple twists, you should learn how
to initiate the twist turning the upper body as one unit.
- This tutorial is for an extended front full. ( front full = front flip full twist )
If you try this skill in a tucked position, the flip will be easier, but the rotation will be harder.
The better you extend your body, the more twists you can add
