Frontflip Stepout - Gymnastics

In this Flash Mavi tutorial you will learn how to do a Frontflip Stepout.
A frontflip stepout is a technique where you jump off and initiate the rotation like if you were doing a normal fronflip,
but then spread out your legs and land like if you were doing a front handspring with spread legs.
Before you try the frontflip stepout, you should be able to do the normal frontflip and the front handspring with spread legs.

Technical description: Frontflip Stepout - Gymnastics

  • Jump off and initiate the rotation like when you do a normal tucked frontflip. see basic frontflip lesson.
  • Then step out with one leg and extend your knees while you bring you extended arms back in line with your upper body.
If you do cartwheels and round-offs from your left leg, step out with your right leg and push the left leg and hip forward up.
  • Land on your right leg. ( which has to be in one line with your upper body and your arms )
Look straight forward and contract your abs slightly to protect your spine from the impact.
Make sure your right knee is not bent too much when the foot touches the floor.
( but the knee should also not be totally extended ) Try to land soft but not tucked at all.
  • After doing a stepout you are in the right posture to do a front handspring,
    a round-off etc.

Trainer advice: Frontflip Stepout - Gymnastics

  • Jump from a trampoline into mats first.
  • Also try the stepout from a springboard before you try it on hard ground.
  • When you can land the frontflip stepout smooth enough, try to follow with a smooth front handspring or round-off.
  • The backwards version of the frontflip stepout is called flashkick.
  • The frontflip stepout is much easier if you can already to the frontflip layout.
  • Also try to step out without tucking ( do a frontflip layout and land with spread legs )
