Technical description: Handstand to a Bridge - Gymnastics

  • Execute a handstand like explained in the handstand tutorial.
For more info please visit the handstand lesson.
  • Let your legs fall over slowly and push your shoulders forward like illustrated above.
The shoulder movement will make that your feet don´t fall onto the floor too hard.
Keep your elbows totally extended and don´t bend your knees too early.
Actually try to keep knees and ankles extended until your legs reach horizontal level.
  • Put your feet down so that the balls of your feet touch the floor first.
If you have very good back flexibility, you might be able to put your legs down with the knees totally extended.
Otherwise bend your knees before your feet touch the floor.
The feet should be put down without much impact.
Keep pushing your shoulders away and don't bend your elbows.
A lot of shoulder flexibility is necessary for this.
Shortly before your feet touch the floor, you can move your shoulders back again,
which would be the perfect impulse to stand back up on your legs.
  • Finally put your heels down and stretch your bridge for a few seconds.
Keep your elbows totally extended and also try to extend your knees.
If you followed the previous steps successfully, you migh be able to stand up
    on your legs.
