Technical description: Jumping from a Springboard into Water
- When you jump into water from a springboard, you can try anything:
Frontflips, backflips, rotations etc.
It doesn't matter how many gymnastics experience you have.
I recommend you jump from a 1 meter springboard, not from 3, 5 or 10m.
The only thing you have to be careful with is, that you don't hit the springboard after jumping off.
This can happen if you jump up too much and not away from the springboard.
Be aware of this risk and jump away from the board a few times before you work on your flips.
( this is to get used to the distance between you and the springboard
)
Trainer advice: Jumping from a Springboard into Water
- Make sure you jump away from the springboard and not straight up.
- Always check for swimmers.
- When you are working on backflip variations, stand with the balls of your feet on the springboard,
so that you heels are in the air. ( edge of the boad ) Strike out and then jump "BACK".
- If you are working on jumps where you don't jump off from two legs, don't try them from a springboard.
Trying them into water is still a good training method, but it's much better to jump them from a stiff 1-meter platform.
Examples: Frontwhips, Cartwheels without hands and rotations etc.
