Tiger or Cat Vault - Gymnastics

This is the first time your legs don't touch the vaulting table.
But the feet are still not kicked up over head. The purpose of this exercise is getting
used to the pressure on the hands and moving the entire body over the table without letting
the legs touch. This technique is often used by free runners.
In free running this is called cat jump or cat vault.

  • Run forward towards the vaulting table and strike out with the arms from behind the back.
  • After the last step, jump flat onto the springboard and bring your feet together. ( jump off from both legs together )
Swing your arms forward and keep your upper body firm.
  • Bounce off from both feet together and extend your legs and your elbows.
Swing up your arms like in the first vaulting exercise ( see gymnastics main ) and keep your upper body firm.
Jump forward up towards the horizontal area of the vaulting table.
  • Put your hands on the horizontal part of the tongue.
    Fingers point straight forward.
Keep your elbows extended and bend your knees, because the legs have to pass under your chest
    without touching the vaulting table.
  • Kick forward your knees under your chest and don't let your feet touch the tongue of the vaulting table.
Keep your elbows totally extended and push your shoulders down.
Also extend your wrists to push yourself away from the table with your hands.
  • Bring your enitre body into a vertical and totally extended position.
Swing your straightened arms forward up, so that they are lined up with your upper body and extend your knees and ankles,
so that arms, upper body and legs form a vertical line.
Look straight forwad. Not down or up.
  • Land in a stuck landing.
A stuck landing is when you land on both feet at the same time without the need of an extra step to balance out the landing.
Look straight forward and keep your arms raised.
You can bend you knees slighly as you land, but don't sit down too far.
