How to do an Obi Otoshi - Judo

An Obi Otoshi ( obi otoshi = belt drop ) is a judo throw, where you grab your
opponents belt with one hand and surround his waist with the other hand.
Then you make him lose balance by lifting him 45 degrees up.

Technical description: Obi Otoshi - Judo Belt Drop

  • Grab your opponents belt, so that you are chest to chest.
  • Then the other hand has to pass in front of his abdominals, so that you are back to chest
    ( your back to his chest )
  • Surround his waist.
  • pull him 45 degrees up, so that you can make him fall. ( Use legs and arms )

 

 

Trainer advice: Obi Otoshi - Judo Belt Drop

  • Practice the Obi Otoshi on mats.
  • Don't throw somebody who has no martial arts experiance at all.
