Kiba Tachi - Karate

In this lesson you will learn how to do a karate horse stance.
The kiba tachi, also called horse stance or straddle stance, is a karate position
where you stand with your feet about 2 shoulder widths apart like you were sitting on
the a horse. This stance is practiced in many different martial arts systems.

Technical description: Kiba Tachi - Karate

  • Feet parallel and and 2 shoulder widths apart.
  • Thighs approximately 45° over horizontal level. Knees point slightly out.
  • Upper body upright.

 

 

Trainer advice: Kiba Tachi - Karate

  • When you walk forward, slide the backleg to your frontleg without standing up and then slide forward.
    Kinda like skating. ( Turn 180° from one horse stanc to the next )
  • Try to hold the horse stance for a few minutes.
