Muay Thai Fighting Stance

The Muay Thai stance is made for poweful roundhouse kicks, knee and elbow strikes.
The arms are in a good position for quick ( but not heavy ) punches and powerful elbow strikes.
The frontleg carries less weight, so that thaiboxing-roundhouse-kicks and shin-blocks can be done very fast.

Technical description: Muay Thai Fighting Stance

  • Most of your weight is on your backleg, because the front-shin is often used to block low roundhouse-kicks.
  • Walk on your toes and dont hop around like a nervous kangoroo. ( don't wase energy )
  • Both hands are up and in front of the head. Elbows and Knees are allowed.
Main difference to Chinese Sanda: In Sanda elbows ain't allowed and there are no ropes surrounding the ring.
So in Sanda you can get pushed out of the ring while in muay thai your opponent can push you against the ropes to
attack you with knees and elbows.

Trainer advice: Muay Thai Fighting Stance

  • Dont lean forward.
  • Harden your shins.
  • A fighter who holds his fists very high and far in front is most likely going to emphasize on kicking techniques and
    blocks with the legs.
