Parkour & Free Running
Parkour and free running are a new sports
where an athlete has to pass several obstacles.
A parkour runner tries to pass all the barriers in his way as quick
and simple as possible,
while a free runner cares more about aesthetics
and does a lot of acrobatics.
A few years ago, parkour runners started
to mix in acrobatics and that was when
parkour running and free running
separated. However, old school parkour runners
never liked what free
runners did, because flips look good, but don't serve the original
purpose
of parkour running; "Fast and simple overcoming of obstacles"
Now flips from 5 meters to the street or cartwheels without hands
while
jumping from one building to the other are very common free
running tricks.
Trainer advice: Parkour & Free Running
- Warm up all your joints and stretch out before
you parkour run.
- Use knee pads and good shoes. Long distance running
shoes have the best protection. Unfortunately they are very expensive
and parkour running breaks your shoes fast.
- When you learn acrobatics, try the tricks
in a gymnastics gym first.
Use mats, work with the help of training partners, keep it
safe.
- Do strength training, stretching and endurance training.
- Be aware that parkour running is the worst
sport for your knees.
So, please be careful !!!
Try jumps into water and mats before you try them on concrete.
- A good parkour o free runner interacts with his
environment.
Improvisation is on of the main ideas behind the sport.
