Metric Mile - Track & Field
The 1500 meters run (metric mile) is an olympic event,
dominated by Africans form Marocco and Kenya. Until 1990, british
athletes
dominated in this discipline. The current world record holder is
Hicham El Guerrouch (3 min 26 sec) from Marocco. On a 400 meters running track this distance equals 3 and 3/4 laps.

- The 1500 meters run is ran on the balls of the feet.
- The field usually stays together until the end-sprint (last 100 to 200 meters) The one with the most reserves and best strategy for the last few meters usually wins. That's why more aerobic conditioned athletes win the 1500 meters run more likely.
- Professional runners run an average time of 55 seconds per lap.
- Tall athletes are usually better 1500 meter runners.
