Capoeira - Ataque Traumatizante

This video shows how to do an "Ataque Traumatizante" in capoeira, which is basically a front walkover kick, followed by a back walkover kick. What's important about this combination is that you always keep looking at your opponent. When you bend down or stand up, bend your head sideways so that you can always see your opponent. Work on your shoulder and back flexibility before you try this. For more capoeira skills, click here, and don't forget to check out the animated capoeira section.

Execution

  • Start from the ginga, turn back, bend down and plant both hands on the floor. Your fingers should point away from your opponent. Keep looking at your opponent as you bend down to the floor. Never lose sight of your opponents actions.
  • Kick one leg up and let the other leg follow. It's like if you were kicking your opponent with both legs, then go into a handstand position and then fall into a bridge. Again, keep looking straight at your opponent when you are in the bridge position. Don't look down to the floor or to your hands. Most people kick the right leg first.
  • Then go back the same way and kick your opponent again. You will land facing away from your opponent, but you should be able to see him from between your legs.
  • When you go back to the ginga, make sure you turn up sideways, so that you never really look away.

Advice

  • This techniques requires a lot of shoulder and back flexibility. Warm up, stretch your shoulders and work on your bridge before you try this.
  • In capoeira it's ok if you bend your elbows when you do a walkover.
