Capoeira Cartwheel - Au
This video shows how to do a capoeira "Au". An "Au" is basically a cartwheel where you keep looking to your opponent the whole time. In order to keep your target profile low, your arms and legs are slightly bent. A kick can be performed in the middle of the au. For more

Execution
- Start from the ginga. Step back with your left leg, then step back to the middle and twist your left foot to the left.
- Plant your left hand about one foot from your left foot and start swinging up your right leg.
- Then plant your right hand about one shoulder width from your left hand.
- In capoeira it's very important that you don't look down to the ground. Keep looking straight forward => watch your opponent the whole time.
- Land on your right leg and go back to your ginga.
- Then try the whole thing the other way around.
Advice
- Practice both, left and right capoeira au. However, at the beginning you should only practice one side. Once you are comfortable with one side, try the other side.
- Kick your legs straight up. Later you can try to kick one leg forward in the middle of the movement.
- Also try the capoeira cartwheel in slow motion or even freeze in the middle.
