Capoeira - Au Giratoria
This video shows how to do a capoeira spin wheel (Au Giratoria). The au giratoria is also called hand spin, but when you only spin 180 degrees, like shown in this video, you don't actually spin on your palms. Instead you walk and turn 90 to 180° on your hands. I published a separate instruction for the au giratora with a full rotation. Find more

Execution
- Start from the ginga, step to the side, turn away from your opponent and bend forward down. Turn away, but keep watching our opponent the whole time. You can turn down sideways so that you can see your opponent from between your legs (like i you were going into a handstand position).
- Plant one hand on the floor and kick up the other leg.
If you want to spin clockwise, bend down to the right, plant your left hand about half a meter in front of your left leg and kick you right leg up. Again, keep watching your opponent! If you want to spin counter-clockwise, do the whole thing the other way around.
- Kick your right leg up, then kick your left leg up and spin a few degrees on your left hand.
- Plant your right hand on the floor and start lowering your right leg. The left leg stays up longer.
- Land on your right leg first and then go back to the ginga.
Advice
- Learn both sides of the au giratoria, but only practice one side at the beginning.
- You should always be able to see your opponent.
- The capoeira spin wheel is technically similar to the gymnastic handstand turn.
- You can also do this with a full spin. For more information, click here.
