Capoeira - Beija Flor

This video shows how to do a Beija Flor (flower kisser kick). You basically start off like if you were going to do a capoeira L-kick, but then twist your hips and bring both legs down. For more capoeira videos, click here.

Execution

  • Start from the ginga and step to the the side. For most people the left side of the beija flor is easier.
  • Then plant one hand with your fingers pointing away from your feet. If you you are stepping to the right, plant your right hand on the floor so that the fingers of your right hand point to the right.
  • Kick your legs up and support yourself on one arm. The other arm protects the face.
  • Don't push your hips up too much. Keep your hips on the same side of the support arm, but move your legs in order to move your center of gravity. Also keep in mind that you should keep looking at your opponent the whole time.
  • Then kick your legs back down and go back to the ginga.

Advice

  • Make sure you warm up your shoulders before you practice this.
  • Don't try this if you can't do a capoeira L-Kick.
