Capoeira L Kick - Bico de Papagaio - Au Batido
This video shows how to do a capoeira L-Kick, also known as Bico de Papagaio (Parrots Beak) and Au Batido (Broken Cartwheel). You basically plant one hand on the floor, lift both legs and then kick your opponent with one leg. For more

Execution
- Start from the ginga and plant one hand on the floor.
- For most people the left side of the Bico de Papagaio feels easier. If you want to practice the left side first, step to the left and plant your left hand on the floor so that your fingers point away from your feet. Make sure your support arm is fully extended (don't bend your elbow).
- Then kick your legs up but don't raise your hips too much.
- Kick forward down towards your opponent with the first leg you kicked up and keep the other leg still. The kick itself is something like a handstand capoeira roundhouse kick to the opponent's neck. One hand is on the floor an the other hand protects the head.
- Then kick your legs back down to the floor and go back to the ginga.
Advice
- Practice both sides of the bico de papagaio.
- If you kick with both legs, that's called Beija Flor (flower kisser (the bird) kick).
- Don't practice the bico de papagaio if you are having shoulder problems. Always warm up and stretch your legs and your shoulders before you try this. Shoulder strength is very important for this kick.
- You can also practice this with kick-pads. Your training partner puts a kick pad on his forearm and you attack him with a bico de papagaio.
