Cocorinha - Capoeira Squat Escape
The cocorinha is one of the easiest defense techniques in capoeira. There are 2 variations of the cocorinha. 1) Squatting with both heels on the floor (shown in this video) 2) Squatting on the balls of the feet and crossing the arms in front of the face. Find more

Execution
- Practice all capoeira techniques from the ginga.
- Step to the side and then plant the other leg less than one shoulder width from leg 1.
- Squat down until your knees touch your shoulders. Your heels should stay on the ground. If you can't squat without raising your heels, you should stretch your calf muscles more often.
- Put one hand on the floor and block with the other hand.
- Then go back to the ginga.
Advice
- You should be able to do a cocorinha from any ginga position.
- The cocorinha is a defense technique where you basically tuck under high or mid-high attack. I recommend you also practice the cocorinha with counter-attacks.
