Capoeira Ginga Video

This video shows how to do the capoeira ginga. Lit: "To Swing" The ginga is the most basic capoeira movement and you should be able to do every other movement from there. Click here to find more capoeira videos or go back to the animated capoeira section for more detailed instructions.

Execution

  • Step back with your right leg and lift your left forearm in front of your chest.
    Step back but don't cross your legs.
  • Keep you upper body pretty straight. Don't lean forward or back too much.
  • Then step back to the middle so that you feet are about one shoulder width apart.
  • Step back with your left leg and lift your right forearm in front of your chest.

Advice

  • Keep looking straight forward the whole time.
  • Relax your hands. These are not karate blocks.
  • Practice the capoeira ginga in front of a mirror, or better, with a training partner like shown in the video.
  • You should be able to do every other capoeira move from the ginga. When you practice a new move always start with a few ginga steps.
