Capoeira - Invertebrada Kip
The Invertebrada Kip is a variation of the Invertebrada. When you do a normal invertebrada, you start with a capoeira front walkover, then go back the same way, close your legs in front of your face, and do a kip-up. You can apply this technique when you see that your opponent is moving away when you start the back walkover. Make sure you know how to do
capoeira walkovers and kip-ups before you try this. Find more capoeira videos here, and more detailed capoeira instructions here.
Execution
- Learn the invertebrada
without kip-up before you try the invertebrada kip. Plant your hands on front of you, kick up one leg, then the other, and to do a front walkover.
- Then go back the same way and close your legs in front of your face.
- If you have enough space, whip your leg back up and forward and do a kip-up. Make sure you are not moving back too much when you do the back walkover.
Advice
- Practice the capoeira kip-up before you try the invertebrada kip. Also practice the kip-up from your hands, without the back walkover.
- Try not to move back too much. The more you move back, the more dangerous for your shoulders and your elbows. Don't let your shoulders move beyond hand level (see video - side view). Don't practice the invertebrada kip if you are having back, elbow or shoulder problems.
- The kip-up from your hands is easier than from the back (because you start higher). But because it's technically very different, it can take some time to learn it.
