Capoeira - Queda de Rins
This video shows how to do a capoeira queda de rins (fall on the kidneys). This technique is used as an escape or a launching point for other technique. You basically go on your hands and then let yourself fall sideways. Of course your fall has to be controlled. Find more detailed
capoeira instructions at capoeira main.
Execution
- Put your hands on the floor like if you were going to do a cartwheel or a handstand.
- When the first leg reaches vertical level, bend your arms and let leg #1 fall forward while he second leg keeps moving. BTW, the down-motion of leg #1 can also be a kick, but at the beginning you should try this slowly.
- Fall slowly and support yourself with the elbow (see video). At the beginning you have to be very careful with your elbow though.
- From here you can go back to the ginga or launch another technique.
Advice
- Always warm up and stretch before you try new capoeira skills.
- At the beginning you should try the queda de rins on mats or on grass.
- For better control, try to fall as slow as possible.
- Keep looking at your opponent the whole time.
