Capoeira - Queixada Kick

This video shows how to do a capoeira outside circle kick (Queixada - lit: Jaw). The queixada is one of the most popular kicks in contemporary capoeira. Find more detailed instructions at capoeira main. For more videos, click here.

Execution

  • Start from the ginga, with one leg back and the other one in front.
  • Then hop forward with your back leg (standing leg) and lift your front leg (kicking leg).
  • Swing your kicking leg in a wide arc from the inside to the outside. Make sure you don't relax your core too much in the first half of the movement and keep your guard up. Extend both legs and look straight forward.
  • Then go back to the ginga, walk a few steps and practice the other side.

Advice

  • Always warm up and stretch your legs before you practice any capoeira kicks.
  • Practice both sides of the queixada.
