Capoeira - S Dobrado

Learn how to do an S-Dobrado. This capoeira skill is similar to the "Chapeu de Couro", but now you plant both hands on the floor and go straight back like if you were doing a "Macaco" (capoeira back handspring). Most people learn the s-dobrado right after the macaco. The english translation for s-dobrado is s-plication. Find more detailed capoeira instructions at capoeira main.

Execution

  • This video only sows one side of the s-dobrado. For the other side simply to the whole thing the other way around.
  • Start from the ginga, step forward with your left leg and do an inside circle kick with your right leg. Bend down on the left leg at the end of the kick, but don't sit down or plant your hands in front of your hips. Don't let your right foot touch the ground.
  • Plant your right hand behind your back, so that your fingers point to the right. Important: Don't turn your hand to your body and then to the right! Turn your hand back and then to the right! (see video)
  • Then kick your right leg up, push your hips up and swing your left hand over-head at the same time.
  • Plant your left hand close to your right hand and land on your right leg first.
  • Go back to the ginga.

Advice

  • In capoeira you should always try to look at your opponent.
  • You don't have to go 100% straight back like if you were doing a gymnastic back walkover. Going back sideways is ok.
  • Being able to do both sides of the s-dobrado can be very useful.
