This video shows the "Pinan Sono San" karate kata. The pinan katas (in Chinese Mandarin "Ping An" = "Peace - Peaceful") are a series of five empty hand forms, taught in a variety of karate styles such as kyokushin karate. Pinan sono san is only the 3rd basic pinan kata which is used as a preparation of the 5 main pinan katas: Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, and Godan. Execution
This kata only involves kicks.
A side kick is performed after every turn.
The pinan katas serve as a foundation for many advanced karate katas.
Your katas should always end at the same spot where they started.
Advice
History: It's said that the Itosu learned a kata called: "Chiang Nan" from a Chinese martial artist who lived in Okinawa. The original form was lost, but with what Itosu learned from this this Chinese man, he developed the 5 main pinan katas, which he thought would be easier to remember. If you put these 5 katas back together, you get Pinan Dai.
Once you know the 5 main pinan katas, you can try the pinan dai. Pinan dai (the great pinan) is a combination of the 5 main pinan katas in one big form. Pinan dai, although originally an Okinawan kata, encompasses the basic Buddhist elements and is performed in the order: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether, so that the 5 katas blend naturally from one into another.
