Karate Kata - Saifa

This video shows how to do the "Saifa", a popular karate kate, which belongs to the Shorei Ryu style. The english translation for "Saifa" is "To Smash Something". It's said that the saifa was developed on a boat somewhere in the south of China. That's why there aren't many movements to the sides. In Chinese Mandarin this karate kata is called "Zuo Fa". Execution

  • The saifa involves a lot of close combat techniques, circular arm movements and a couple of front kicks (mae geri).
  • In this kata, defense and attack techniques are often executed with the same arm.
  • The saifa teaches a few very important self defense principles.

Advice

  • The circular arm movements show a strong Chinese influence.
