Karate Kata - Sokugi Taikyoko Sono Ni

This video shows how to do the karate kata: "Sokugi Taikyoko Sono Ni", which is the second taikyoku kata with kicks in it. Sokugi = Kicking, Ni = Two. This kata is pretty much the same as sokugi taikyoko sono ichi, but instead of a kansetsu geri (low karate side kick), a yoko geri (high side kick) is done after every turn. Execution

  • Taikyoku katas are performed in a variety of karate styles. "Taikyoku" means "First Course" or "Basic Ultimate" and "Sokugi" means "Kicking". The sokugi taikyoko sono ni is the second taikyoko kata with kicks.
  • A yoko geri is thrown after every turn.
  • After each turn you do one to three high mae geris (karate front kicks).
  • In some schools you would do a "Kake Wake Uke" (Reverse Wedge Block) between the side kick the following front kicks.

Advice

  • A little problem with this video: The side kicks are supposed to be higher. I will re-tape it when I have time.
  • This is the second taikyoko karate kata with kicks.
  • Sokugi taikyoko sono ich is pretty much the same but all the kicks are lower.
  • If possible, video tape yourself.
