This video shows the karate kata "Taikyoko Sono Ichi", which is one of the first katas you should learn. This is a very short kata and only involves slide steps, turns, straight punches and blocks (no kicks). For more karate videos, click here, and don't forget to check out the animated karate section.
Execution
Taikyoku katas are seen in several types of karate. "Taikyoku" means "First Course" or "Basic Ultimate". Gichin Funakoshi developed these katas as a way to simplify the principles of the already simplified Pinan/Heian katas.
In the taikyoku sono ichi, a gedan barai (block) is executed after each turn.
Every punch is seiken oi tsuki chudan.
The "Taikyoko Sono Ichi Kata" and the shotokan karate kata "Taikyoku Shodan" are exactly the same.
Advice
This is one of the first katas you should learn.
