Taikyoko Sono Ni - Karate Kata

This video shows the "Taikyoko Sono Ni" kata, which is the second ("Ni" =2) taikyoko kata you should learn. This kata is very short and doesn't involve any kicks (only punches, turns and blocks). For more karate kata videos, click here, and don't forget to check out the animated karate section.

Execution

  • Taikyoku katas are seen in a variety of karate styles. "Taikyoku" means "First Course" = "Basic Ultimate". These katas were developed by "Gichin Funakoshi". They simplify the principles of the already simplified Pinan/Heian katas.
  • The taikyoko sono ni is performed the same way as taikyoku sono ichi. The only difference is that all punches are "Jodan" (head height) instead of "Chudan" (chest height)
  • This kata is identical to the taikyoku nidan in shotokan.

Advice

  • This is the 2nd kata you should learn.
  • Slide on the balls of your feet (without standing up)
  • If possible, tape yourself.
