Muay Thai - Straight Kick
In this muay thai video instruction you will learn how to do a straight kick. In Thai, this kick is called Te Trong (เตะตรง). The exact translation for Te Trong is (Te = เตะ = Kick) + (Trong = ตรง = Direct). The straight kick is aimed for the opponent's chin. You kick up in-between your opponent's guard and hit with the top of the foot. The Te Trong is a snapped
muay thai kick. Find more muay thai video instructions here,

instructions at the muay thai main page.
Execution
- Start from your muay thai fighting stance, stand on the
balls of your feet
and keep your guard up.
- Lift your knee and bend your leg less than 90°.
- Then extend your kicking leg and kick with the top of your foot.
- Also extend your standing leg and push your hips forward. This will increase you reach. The more you extend your standing leg and push your hips forward, the better the chances that you actually surprise your opponent with this kick.
- Keep at least one hand on your head and don't open up your sides. A lot of beginners try to kick too high and then lift the elbows sideways. That's usually when you get your opponent's knees or roundhouse kick in your ribs. Also make sure you keep your chin down as you kick.
- Go back the same way and return to your muay thai fighting stance.
Advice
- Most muay thai fighters don't practice the straight kick a lot. It is easy to miss the opponent with this kick.
