Sanda - Moving Forward
This video shows how to do move forward in sanda (chin. kickboxing). In Mandarin this is called "Qian Hua Bu" lit: "Front Slide Step". Click here for more Chinese
kickboxing videos and don't forget to check out the sanda main page.
Execution
- Start from your fighting stance, keep your guard up, bend your chin down a little and look straight forward. Round your back a little and relax your shoulders. Keep your heels close to the floor but don't rest on your heels. Both legs carry the same amount of weight.
- Step forward with your front leg and let the back leg follow shortly after. Don't separate your feet too much and keep your upper body upright.
- Keep your feet pretty close to the ground. The heel of the back foot can be a little higher though.
Advice
- When you step forward, the front leg always moves slightly before the back leg. When you step back on the other hand, the back leg moves first.
- Don't bend your upper body back or forward.
- Always keep your head at the same height. Don't stand up as you move forward. At the beginning it helps if you imagine you were walking in a low-ceilinged room.
