Sanda Over-Head Lift Throw

This video shows how to do a over-head lift throw in sanda (chin. kickboxing). In Chinese (Mandarin) this is called: "Kang Shuai". This throw can be applied after a tuck under your opponent's punch. Just grab his legs, stand up and move forward so that he falls over your back. Click here for more Chinese kickboxing videos and don't forget to check out the sanda main page.

Execution

  • Tuck and move down as close as possible to your opponent. Keep your upper body pretty straight and make sure your stance is wide (for balance). When you stand up and lift your opponent, you should not lift him with your back. Lift him with the strength of your legs.
  • Surround your opponents thighs (just above the knee) with your forearms.
  • Then stand up and move forward fast. Exhale at the same time.
  • Once you have your opponent in this position, you can throw him wherever you want. Most sanda fighters let their opponents fall over their shoulders.

Advice

  • Work on your tuck and learn how to move forward quickly in a low position.
  • Work on your leg strength. Do Barbell Squats.
  • If your opponent wants to apply this throw, try to push him down before he can grab your legs, push him to the side of just lift him before he can lift you. Make sure you can't keep his upper body straight.
