Wushu Double Front Sweep

This video shows how to do a wushu double front sweep. It's actually called front sweep 900, but the first 180 degrees are not really part of the sweep. In Chinese (Mandarin) this is called "Qian Sao Jiu Bai". The double front sweep is considered the most difficult wushu sweep. However, it's possible to do more than 2 rotations. Also check out the animated wushu section or go back to wushu videos main.

Execution

  • When you do a double wushu front sweep, your hands should not touch the floor. Don't get used to putting your hands down.
  • It's very important that you keep your upper body tight and vertical.
  • As for the arm-motion, there are 2 ways to do this:
    • Close your arms after the initial 180 degree turn => Harder to balance but easier to rotate.
    • Or Keep your arms wide open during the entire first rotation => more speed is required. I recommend you keep your arms open at the beginning and close your arms when you care more about completing the 2 rotations rather than good form. Always keep your arms open when you work on your form.
  • Keep pressure on your left foot. Actually try to stand up a little while sweeping. (about an inch) This will speed up the rotation.
  • Keep your head straight - Try not to look down.
  • For a more detailed instruction check out the animated tutorial.

Advice

  • Stretch your wushu flat stance.
  • Do the Chuan Zhang before you practice your wushu sweeps.
  • There is only one side of the front sweep. (right leg = sweeping leg)
