Wushu Flat Stance - Video Instruction

This video shows how to do a wushu flat stance (also know as drop stance). In Chinese (Mandarin) this is called "Pu Bu". The flat stance is one of the 5 basic wushu stances. Once you know how to do the flat stance, you should learn the wushu chuan zhang mini-form and then the 5 stances form. Also check out the animated wushu section or go back to wushu videos main.

Execution

  • Your feet should be parallel and about 2 shoulder widths apart. Keeping the front foot parallel is kinda difficult at the beginning. That's why you should stretch your ankles for this wushu stance.
  • Don't elevate your heels.
  • Try to go as low as possible - The flat stance is the lowest basic wushu stance.
  • The front leg has to be fully extended.
  • Keep your upper body straight and look straight forward. Don't round your back.
  • Try to hold your wushu flat stance for about 20 seconds.
  • For a more detailed instruction check out the animated wushu flat stance instruction.
