Wushu Smash Punch - Longfist

This video shows how to do a wushu smash punch. In Chinese (Mandarin) this is called "Za Quan". The smash punch is a speed technique often seen in modern wushu hand forms. It's often used when the speed of your form changes. Also check out the animated wushu section or go back to wushu videos main.

Execution

  • Start with your legs closed.
  • Then turn your head to the left and extend your left arm sideways.
  • Step to the left, swing your arm and lift your right knee. At the same time, extend your right fist over-head.
  • Then stomp down with both feet and smash the back of your right fist into your left palm. The stomp and the smash have to happen at the same time.
  • Look forward and hold the end position for 1 or 2 seconds.
  • For a more detailed instruction check out the animated wushu smash punch instruction.

Advice

  • Only practice this side (left side) of the wushu smash punch - There is no right side.
  • The first form where you will get confronted with the smash punch is the gui ding quan (standard form)
  • Don't practice the smash punch if you have knee problems.
