Wushu Kip-Up Video
This video shows how to do a wushu kip-up. In Chinese (Mandarin) this is called "Li Yu Da Ting". There are three variations of this wushu technique: The kipup with the hands next to the ears, the kipup with the hands on the thighs and the kipup with the arms flat on the floor. Execution
- Lie down on your back and put your hands next to your ears.
- Roll back a little so that the hips are elevated a little. Bring your feet as close as possible to your face.
If your flexibility is not good enough yet, you can also bend your knees a little, but in the middle of the movement, your legs should be fully extended. => important for height.
- Then whip your legs forward and keep your knees straight until you reach vertical level. You hips must not move back down until then. Press you hands and your head down as long as possible. Don't bend your head forward too soon.
- Then bend your knees and if you want to make this a little easier, also separate your feet. To make it easier again, throw your hands straight forward.
- The better looking variation would be lifting the arms (aligned with your upper body) and keeping your legs closed.
Advice
- Once you can do the wushu kipup with the hands next to the ears, try the kipup with the hands on your thighs and then the kipup with the arms flat on the floor.
- Your neck will probably be sore the day after your first few attempts.
- The kipup and the wushu headspring are technically very similar.
