Wushu Gui Ding Quan Video

This video shows how to do the standard form "Gui Ding Quan". The standard form is the first real form every young wushu student in China has to learn. Kids compete with this form and for some adults it feels ridiculous to even learn it. But in fact, everybody who is into modern wushu should master this form. Gui Ding Quan helps understand a variety of basic wushu moves and includes a couple of difficulties such as the cartwheel without hands, the flying wushu frontkick and the wushu whirlwind kick. Execution

  • The standard form consists of 4 sections. In Chinese a section is called "Duan" - So the first section would be "Di Yi Duan" - "Di Yi" stands for "First"
    • 2nd = "Di Er"
    • 3rd = "Di San"
    • 4th = "Di Si"

Advice

  • Learn this form if you plan to study wushu in China.
  • Beginners would go from position to position and hold each stance so that the coach can correct positions. Since this can take a while (especially when you work out in class + holding wushu stances can be very exhausting) this form is often practiced section by section.
  • Some movements have been changed over the years. For example the landing after the wushu whirlwind kick.
