How to Spot a Wushu Aerial
In this video instruction you will learn how to spot a wushu aerial (cartwheel without hands or in Chinese Mandarin: Ce Kong Fan). Before you try this spotting technique, your student should know how to do the cartwheel, the one-handed
wushu cartwheel and the wushu butterfly kick. Click here for more wushu videos.
Execution
- Stand on the left side of your student and hold his left hand with your left hand.
- Then put your right forearm over his hip (at the bottom of his stomach).
- Run a few steps on the side of your student and keep your hips turned towards him (see video).
- When your student jumps off from his left leg, you lift his hip and pull his left hand into the right direction. This gives him more height=time and speed to land the wushu aerial. After a while you will not have to help that much anymore and that's when you can let your student jump from a reuther-springboard or into a sand pit or mats.
ADvice
- Careful with your legs! Don't hit your students head with your left knee.
- If your student bends too much to the side (like if he was doing a wushu butterfly kick) let him practice a couple of left-handed cartwheels. This will straighten his cartwheels and aerials. If he still bends to the side (=> your knee), pull his left hand down in front of your knee.
