Wushu Butterfly Kick Video
This video shows how to do a wushu butterfly kick. In Chinese (Mandarin) the butterfly kick is called "Xuan Zi", which is the easiest wushu jump. The more difficult variation, the
wushu butterfly twist is called "Xuan Zi Zhuan Ti". Also check out the animated wushu section or go back to wushu videos main.
Execution
- Run 3 steps and turn 180 degrees like shown in the video above.
- Swing your head and your extended arms down towards the floor and then forward up.
- Jump from your left leg and kick your right leg up. Keep you right knee fully extended and swing your right foot slightly over hip height.
- Look straight forward and keep your arms opened. Don't look down to the floor. If you close your arms, you will initiate a twist.
- Land on your right leg and then on your left leg.

Advice
- Practice the butterfly runup in every single wushu workout.
- Don't try the wushu b-twist if your butterfly kick isn't perfect. Spread your arms to the sides and look straight forward. Don't close your arms!
- Try to do 2 or more wushu butterfly kicks in a row.
- Try the butterfly kick with a wushu weapon. (staff, sword, whip chain etc)
