Wushu - Flying Frontkick to Whirlwind Kick

This video shows how to go from a flying wushu frontkick to a wushu whirlwind kick. In Chinese (Mandarin) the flying frontkick is called "Teng Kong Fei Jiao" and the wushu whirlwind kick is called "Xuan Feng Jiao". In this video, Song Long Yong does 4 steps in-between the jumps, but it's actually better if you do this with only 2 steps. Also check out wushu main or click here for more wushu videos.

Execution

  • Run a few steps and jump off from your right leg.
  • Do a flying wushu frontkick like shown in the flying frontkick lesson.
  • Land on your right leg, step forward with the left leg, then jump off from your right leg again and do a wushu whirlwind kick 360, 540 or 720.
  • You can also do 4 steps in-between the jumps.

Advice

  • Exhale as you jump off.
  • 4 Steps are easier but 2 steps look better.
  • If you do a wushu whirlwind kick 360, you have to land on your right leg. If you do a 540 or a 720 you can land on both legs at the same time. Make sure you never land on your left leg first. If you land on your left leg first you need to work on your whirlwind kick (without combination).
  • If you can do both jumps on its own but have difficulties combining them, do one of the jumps from a reuther-springboard.
