Wushu Lotus Kick Video
This video shows how to do a running wushu lotus kick. This is actually one of my favorite jumps, but unfortunately most schools don't teach it like this anymore. Because the circular runup is difficult to combine and extra-rotations are hard to balance, most
wushu schools now only teach the standing lotus kick. Also check out the animated wushu section or go click here for more wushu videos.
Execution
- Run 4 steps (see video) and jump off from your right leg. BTW, this is a circular runup.
- In mid-air you can either bend your left leg or fully extend it. Extending both legs is more difficult, but looks better.
- Slap your right leg like if you were doing a wushu outside circle kick.
- Land on both legs at the same time or on the right leg first. The left should never touch the floor first.
- Slap both hands onto the floor.
Advice
- Exhale as you jump off.
- Keep your abs tight and don't look down to the floor. Also don't look down when you jump off.
- Do plyometric leg exercise to increase your vertical leap.
- Stretch your side spits on the konasana.
