Wushu Moonsault Video

This video shows how to do a round-off followed by a moonsault in wushu. In wushu (Chinese martial arts) this flip is often done in shows and traditional wushu styles like ditangquan or double broadsword. Also check out the animated wushu section, the artistic gymnastics section, or go back to wushu videos main.

Execution

  • Run a few steps and then put your hands on the floor. (almost at the same time)
  • Do a very fast, short round-off and bounce off from the balls of your feet.
  • Make sure your legs are closed, your knees are pretty straight and look forward as you jump up.
  • Bend back in mid air and arch your back a little. Don't bend back too early.

Advice

  • Learn the round-off, the gymnastic back handspring and the back tuck before you try the moonsault.
  • Use landing mats at the beginning
  • Also try the moonsault on a trampoline or from a springboard into water before you try it on hard ground.
  • In wushu, every movement should be fast and flashy. In artistic gymnastics on the other hand, movements are very straight (extended) and long.
