Wushu - Flying Frontkick to Aerial

This video shows how to go from a flying wushu frontkick into an aerial (cartwheel without hands). This is not a very common combination, because in modern wushu competitions it doesn't score very high. But it looks quite nice and is actually kinda difficult. Also check out the animated wushu section, the gymnastics section, or go back to wushu videos main.

Execution

  • Run a few steps and jump off from your right leg.
  • Do a flying wushu frontkick like shown in the flying frontkick instruction.
  • Land on your right leg (landing on the left leg is wrong)
  • Step forward with your left leg and do an aerial. The wushu aerial has to be done right after the flying frontkick. NO MORE than 1 step between the two jumps!

Advice

  • The first time I saw this this movie was in Jet Li's movie "Shaolin"
  • How to learn this: Do a flying wushu frontkick and then a cartwheel with both hands.
Next time do a flying frontkick followed by a one-handed cartwheel.
And then try it without using your hands.
  • Using a springboard: Run forward and do the flying wushu frontkick before the springboard. Land with your right leg half a meter from the board, step forward and do the aerial from the springboard.
  • Here is something I've never seen/practiced before: Flying Wushu Frontkick to Aerial Twist :)
