Wushu Staff - Back Twirl Video

This video shows how to do a back twirl with the wushu staff. The back twirl is one of the easiest wushu staff techniques and should be learned in one of your first wushu training sessions. Click here, for more wushu staff videos.

Execution

  • Step forward with your left leg and hold your wushu staff in your right hand.
  • Then put you left hand over your right hand. The right hand leads the movement. Now both hands are on the lower third of your staff and the thin end points up.
  • Let your staff end fall down behind your right shoulder so that the thick and passes close to the left side of your head.
  • Then swing your wushu staff to the other side and do the same thing the other way around.

Advice

  • Circle your staff as close as possible to your body but be careful with the thick end. At the beginning you might hit your forehead with bottom. That's why you should do the back twirl slowly at the beginning.
  • Practice the back twirl in front of a mirror.
  • The back twirl is easier than the front twirl.
