Wushu Straightsword Cloud

This video shows how to do the wushu straightsword cloud movement. The straightsword cloud is a horizontal helicopter swing where you circle your wushu sword from your hip over your head and then down behind your back. In Chinese (Mandarin) this is called "Yun Jian". "Yun" means cloud and "Jian" is the double-edged wushu sword. Click here, for more wushu straightsword videos.

Execution

  • Start with your wushu straightsword on the left side and your palm facing up.
  • Then twist your hand over-head and circle your straightsword horizontally. The back of your right hand should always face down and your wushu sword should remain parallel to the floor.
  • Twist your entire upper body from the hips and circle your straightsword behind your lower back.
  • Then go back the same way.
  • The left arm follows delayed.

Advice

  • Relax your wrist.
  • Make sure you don't twist your hand or the straightsword sideways.
  • In the middle of the movement you should hear your wushu sword spinning like a propeller. Use your wrist to speed up the middle of the movement. The beginning and the end of the movement can be a little slower.
  • Don't fully extend your arm over-head.
