Wushu Whip - 2 Hand Back Swing
This video shows how to do a 2 hand back swing with a wushu whip chain. in Chinese Mandarin, this technique is called "Liao Bian". Liaobian is one of the first
wushu whip skills you should learn. For more video instructions, click here.
Execution
- Hold the handle of your whip with your right hand and put your left hand on top.
- Then swing your wushu whip forward up and down behind your right shoulder.
- Keep your "Bian" (wushu whip chain) very close to your body.
- When the chain points straight down to the floor, swing your weapon to the right and down behind the left shoulder (with a small hand movement). Don't move your arms too much. The speed comes from your wrists and from your hips, but not from your elbows or arms.
- Alternate left and right swings.
Advice
- "Liao Bian" and "Liao Gun" (back twirl with the wushu staff) are pretty much the same.
- Start slowly and speed up once you feel comfortable with this movement.
- If you are afraid of hitting yourself, work a tennis ball and a cord instead of a real wushu whip chain. Btw, you will probably hit yourself harder if you swing your whip very far from your body. Again, keep your whip close!
- Don't forget to attach the flags.
