Wushu Whip Catch
This video shows how to catch your wushu whip chain at the end of a form. Whip chain forms almost always end like this. This is actually one of the easiest whip chain techniques and you can try this before you learn the basic swings and twines. This will also help you get used to the weight of this
wushu weapon. In Chinese Mandarin, the whip catch is called "Shou Shi". For more wushu whip videos, click here.
Execution
- Swing your wushu whip forward up slowly.
- Shortly before your whip reaches horizontal level, pull the handle back a little and open your hand. Let all the section fly into your right hand and keep then handle clamped in-between your thumb and your pointer.
Advice
- Make sure you swing your wushu whip forward up, not forward down.
- If you practice this often enough, you will able to catch your whip chain without even looking.
