Wushu Whip - Head Elbow Twine
This video shows how to do a head to elbow twine with a wushu whip chain. This is one of the first really cool whip chain techniques you will learn. Since you can hit in your own face if you don't get the timing right, I recommend you try this with a tennis ball on a cord before you try this with a metal
wushu whip. Before you try the head-elbow twine, you should learn the basic swings and the normal neck twine. For more wushu whip chain videos click here, and don't forget to check out the animated whip chain section.
Execution
- Stand with your left foot forward and swing your wushu whip forward down.
- Then swing it over the back of your head and under your right shoulder.
- And here is the trick: Before the chain touches the bottom of your right arm, you have to follow the chain's movement with your right hand to unwrap the neck twine. When the chain touches your arm, you turn your head away, because the second twine only goes around your flexed arm.
- And finally, before your wushu whip wraps around your arm a second time, you redirect the swing by turning 180° to the right.
Advice
- Take my advice and try this with a cord and a tennis ball first. A lot is going on in a short period of time and you have to be very fast. Play safe, don't hit yourself.
- At the beginning you should swing your whip as slow as possible.
- Make sure you attach your whip chain flags before you try the head-elbow twine with a metal wushu whip.
