Wushu Whipchain - Shoulder Arm Swing

This video shows how to do the shoulder arm swing with a wushu whip chain. The shoulder arm swing is technically very similar to the shoulder neck twine. Click here to find more wushu jiujiebian (9 section whip) videos and check out the animated section for information about this wushu weapon.

Execution

  • Stand with your right foot forward and swing your wushu whip on the right side of your body. Keep your whip close to your body and don't swing it too fast at the beginning.
  • Then lift your right elbow and swing your whip under your shoulder.
  • Lean a little bit to the left (but don't turn around) and let the chain cross your back so that it comes back down over your left shoulder. Fully flex your right elbow so that the handle of your wushu whip is very close to your shoulder. This gives you more length and time.
  • Turn a little more to the right and let your whip chain complete one full circle in front of your chest. If you look closely (video) you will notice that the chain kinda goes around your chin.
  • When the top of your wushu whip moves down again, turn to the left very fast and open your left arm.
  • Let your whip go under your left shoulder and turn to the right again. Don't forget to keep the handle close to your right shoulder. You will need length at this point.
  • Repeat 1 to 3 times and then turn around before your whip goes under your left shoulder again. A full turn to the left will unwrap you.

Advice

  • Try this with a tennis ball on a cord first.
  • Move your wushu whip fast enough so that the chain always remains straight. But not too fast so that you lose control.
  • Don't forget to attach the flags to your wushu whip.
