Wide Grip Lat Pullup - Back Training
In this lesson you will learn how to do wide grip pullups for the upper back muscles and the arms. All you need for this exercise is a pullup bar. Find more back exercises at weight training main.
Description: Wide Grip Lat Pullup
- Grab the bar at approximately 2 shoulder widths with your fingers pointing forward. (away from the head) Start off with your elbows almost extended.
- Pull yourself up until your chest touches the bar and exhale. Try to keep your entire body straight and don't create momentum with your legs.
- Then extend your arms again, move back down and inhale at the same time. Keep your shoulders low during the whole exercise and never extend your elbows totally. At the lowest position your lats should be stretched slightly.
Trainer advice: Wide Grip Lat Pullup
- Don't swing your body to create momentum. Keep you knees extended and your abs contracted slightly.
- Keep your collar bones right under the bar.
- When you do pullups, you work with your own bodyweight, so you cannot adjust the resistance. This can be very heavy. Keep in mind that you can also do wide grip pulldowns on a pulldown machine instead of wide grip pullups.
