Leg Curls - Hamstring Exercise

In this lesson you will learn how to do lying leg curls.
The leg curl is an exercise were you lie on a bench and curl up a weight with the strength
of your hamstrings. The opposite to this exercise is the leg extension.

Technical description: Leg Curl - Hamstring Exercise

  • Lie down on a leg curl machine, hook your heels under the roller pad and grasp the handles.
    Don't fully extend your knees.
  • Curl up your legs until your hamstrings are fully contracted.
    The roller pad should either touch the glutes or the calves should be are vertical.
    Don't elevate your hips and make sure you upper body remains flat on the bench.
    Exhale as you curl your legs up and don't try to create momentum.
  • Then extend your legs until your knees are almost extended and inhale slowly and concentrated. Don't let the weight fall.

 

 

Trainer advice: Leg Curls - Hamstring Exercise

  • Move slowly and concentrated. Don't swing the weight up.
  • Curl the roller pad up until it touches your glutes or your calves are vertical.
  • Stretch your hamstrings between sets and exercises.
  • The up motion should be slightly faster than the down motion.
  • The opposite to the lying leg curl is the leg extension - for the quadriceps.
